Productivity: being effective in achieving specified results.
(from the American Heritage Dictionary)

The problem for all American businesses in he 21st century is how to do more with fewer employees. Bigger, better, faster has become Smaller, better, faster.

Personal Organizer
Workers can be better organized by using Personal Organizer software such as Microsoft Outlook (TM).

Note that this is NOT the same program as Outlook Express. This product comes with every edition of Microsoft Office (TM), and is also included with all Exchange Server installations.

“You own your own business. You don't get any days off."
Tom Fitzgerald, General Manager, L Street Auto, Omaha

With Outlook, they can track appointments, tasks and address book information. When combined with Microsoft Exchange Server (TM), tasks can be assigned to others, appointment calendars can be viewed by others and attendees can be invited to meetings. Public Exchange folders that are viewable through Outlook can be created to hold information needed by more than one person. A company vendor list, or customer list for example.

Collaboration/Information Exchange
For document collaboration, or a company information intranet, there is SharePoint Server (TM).
which is a built in part of Windows 2003 Server (TM) and Windows Small Business Server 2003 (TM). This product is the cornerstone of Microsoft 's Office productivity strategy. We can help you you get started if you already have SharePoint, or help you procure a product that contains SharePoint.

Document Templates
Create templates for often used document types. Word processing documents and spread sheet documents benefit from this. Templates should also be included as part of the companies standardization effort.

Automation (See Windows Automation)
Many documents that are created as part of set procedures can have their creation done via scripts, or batch files. For example, if part of the procedure for new customers is creating a folder with the customers' name in a certain folder, then copying certain other documents of templates into the customer folder. That is the kind of procedure that can be economically automated reducing both labor costs and potential mistakes of omissions.
